Screening and Talk: Julie Perini’s They Have a Name for Girls Like Me

Julie Perini’s experimental video project, They have a name for girls like me, is comprised of appropriated material from nearly 40 films spanning many cultures and decades with characters named “Julie.” The video offers a cross-section of global fiction narrative filmmaking while exploring the history of representation of women in cinema, notions of gender as performance and ideas about cinematic identification.
