Art Conversations 2018: Collecting Art Books, Artist Ephemera and Editions

Ampersand Gallery & Fine Books is pleased to host an evening conversation with Heather Watkins and Fredrik Averin, both of whom engage with books as artists, designers and collectors. The event marks the sixth installment of PADA’s Art Conversations 2018, a monthly series of talks focused on collecting and how it relates to the arts ecology of our city. Moderated by gallery owner Myles Haselhorst, the conversation will focus on various aspects of collecting art books and printed materials made by artists. Why collect art books? How do book collections inform and supplement our understanding and appreciation of art culture? When is a book a work of art in and of itself? How do art, photography and design books influence the creative process? What is the role of book dealers and bookstores in helping build a collection? How do we live with books, both as individuals and society at large?
