Blackfish is one of the most enduring and successful artist-owned galleries in the United States. Fully owned and operated by working artists since 1979, we are dedicated to high standards of excellence in the selection and presentation of work. Each of the projects to which we commit is designed to carry out three goals:
- To present outstanding visual art within the context of thought-provoking ideas
- To provide a forum and venue for artists creating unique work that may exist beyond retail and commercial boundaries
- To reach for a broader and more diverse audience by continuing to program exhibitions and events with themes having significance for a wide cross section of our community.
Since its inception, Blackfish has hosted a wide variety of events, including talks by visiting artists, panel discussions, site-specific installations, theater performances and literary readings, and exchanges with galleries in other cities. In addition, Blackfish hosts emerging and guest artists in our Fishbowl space, a street-facing window showcasing works whose purpose is to engage the passerby.
