Bootsy Holler - Contaminated Bootsy Holler's Contaminated is a layered exploration of the tens of thousands affected by radiation illnesses and the secrets the United States Government kept at the Hanford Nuclear site. “Contaminated” is what has happened to the people and the land in southeastern Washington State. This is where I was born. This is where my family lived for eight decades. In 1942, my maternal grandfather arrived on the land and started working for the U.S. Government, codenamed “Manhattan Project.” The Hanford site produced plutonium for the first nuclear bomb used during World War II. In the exhibition are handmade photo sculptures built from the stories I have heard and experienced from family, friends, and news articles. The unique work is accompanied by landscapes, mixed with my experience growing up in this highly charged town. On view through October 31.
