Laura Russo Portland Gallerist and PADA Founding Member 1944-2010
We are deeply saddened by the death of our dear friend and founding member, Laura Russo.
She was among the small group of art dealers who established First Thursday in Portland, and was considered the consummate expert of Pacific Northwest artists. Her life-long devotion to talent of this region was unmatched. She will be remembered for her astute eye, her emphatic demand of respect for local artists, and her impeccable professional standards.
Russo attended the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and began her professional gallery career at Arlene Schnitzer's Fountain Gallery where she worked for 11 years, and for the past 23 years she operated her own gallery. Current staff members and artists have committed to keeping the Laura Russo Gallery open as a thriving, vital part of the community.
