Carlos Molina & Allison Hmura - Places Between Us
Introducing new Blackfish Gallery member Carlos Molina and new apprentice member Allison Hmura, Places Between Us collaboratively explores the latent narratives of space, and the communicative potential of the places we inhabit. Seeking out connection points between narratives, Carlos Molina builds complex mixed media compositions out of acrylic, oil, and unconventional materials such as puzzle pieces. Weaving together found visual histories taken from still frame cinema and vintage photographs, and inspired by his background in architecture, Molina explores the interplay between constructed spaces and the sparks of meaning which define their character. Interjecting these compositions with visual shards drawn from mythology and religious allegory, Molina speaks to the essential currents of life, death, time, love, and desire. On view through November 28.
